Hard Candy – Biography

Hard Candy are an all-girl trio from Hong Kong who play experimental punk music. The band’s inspiration for the name came from the inspiration of Hard, heavy music and sweet youth and femininity. Singer and Guitarist Yanyan Pang has never been trained in musical skills, yet she fell in love with punk music when she was a schoolgirl, and started a band by using all she knew about music. She developed her way of writing songs with fellow members Renee Ko on drums and Alex Herworth on bass. These girls are mainly influenced by early 90's grunge and noise pop band, art and literature is also a major influence to them: the band love to tell stories about others and touch listener's hearts with their lyrics and music. If people are expecting to see some cutie or sexy girl playing on stage, they will be disappointed, their live performance is often described as raw and rough, sometimes violent, sometimes just too drunk.
