    Review: HK Live! Debut show

Sell Out Debut Show A Resounding Success!
The first HK Live! kicked off at The Fringe on Saturday with queues stretching around the 100-year old building. The night pulled a diverse crowd and they were all soon down at the front of the stage. MC Goldmountain opened the show with a breathtaking delivery of improvised rap, whipping the crowds into a frenzy.

First band of the night, SIQ, appeared on stage in face paints and playing a dirty funk groove that soon escalated into a mad rock-theatre show. Front-man Shun flung himself around the stage like a shaman before diving into the audience to deliver his vocals, and eventually hurling Ferre Roche chocolates into the crowd as a final act of rock insanity.

Following this burning scene appeared the Hong Kong punk outfit, Hardpack. With the mighty Kevin Li on drums and a cast of some of the most respected musicians in the local scene, Hardpack seduced the packed house with their hilarious songs, with highlights such as "Girls Suck." There was a star performance from the band's newest member, Ah Fai of LMF fame.

Then it was time for the heavyweights to take to the stage. Headliners, Soler appeared and the entire room erupted into a Beatles-esque screaming pit of desire. Julio and Dino Acconci were in fine form as they swept through their set list of hits. It was a triumphant end to a night that proved the searing talent of the Hong Kong music scene – and the good news is that there's a lot more coming.

    Have your say:

"Well done HK Live! All three bands were fantastic, particularly SiQ, with a colourful and creative flare that's rarely seen in the HK local scene, and finally people in HK are getting a chance to see more live bands with diversity. Fringe is a great venue to see these bands up close and personal, it really has that sweet vibe that matches those "pub gigs" overseas."

"Going along to HK Live I saw bands that I normally would never have seen, and I am now a huge fan of Solar. It was a great night out and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one!"
Dana Urmonas - PR & Marketing Manager, Cafe Deco Group
